Remuda 2009

For those of you who are not familiar with the term Remuda - the actual definition is "a group of extra saddle horses kept kept as a supply of remounts." Therefore, I guess it is a fitting name for a big horse sale that occurs with 4 large ranches participating. The ranch Casey works for, the Four Sixes, is one of the participants. Each year, the cowboys have the opportunity to sale horses from their "string" (the horses assigned to them to break, ride, and care for). They get a small commission from the sale, but the majority of the proceeds go to the ranch. This year, there were 140 horses in the sale held at the Tongue River Ranch. Casey sold 2 horses - Hollywood and Spot (I know spot sounds like a dog name). The horses are demonstrated for buyers on Friday and then the sale takes place on Saturday where you just lead the horse through the ring while the auctioneer talks "a mile a minute." Our nephew Boone helped Casey demonstrate how gentle Hollywood was by sitting on him bareback during the sale. Here are a few pictures of the boys.
Waiting their turn.

The biding begins....
Casey is looking pretty pleased so far.
And Hollywood sold for $13,000! Whoo-hoo. I am so proud of my hubby. The buyer needed a gentle horse for trail rides and Hollywood fit perfectly.

10 year reunion

This weekend we traveled to Merkel for Casey's 10 year high school reunion. The weekend was packed with activities not to mention trying to squeeze in family time too. Friday night we went to the football game where there were plenty of people to visit with. We stayed out late catching up and enjoying old friends. Saturday we took Avery to the park to meet other classmates' kids and play. Casey was able to play a game of golf with several of the guys which he really enjoyed. That night, we joined the class once more for dinner at the Beehive (yum) and then caught the end of the Texas vs. Tech game at his uncle's house. It was so fun to see high school friends and what everyone has been doing. Since I also went to Merkel, I knew as many people as he did. Sadly, amongst the craziness, I didn't get hardly any pictures to document the experience :( It did make me look forward to my 10 year reunion next fall - even though we are feeling old since we have been out of high school for 10 years!
Merkel High School class of 1999. It was a pretty good turnout at dinner with 47 alum and their significant others out of a graduating class of about 100.

About to ride in the Gator at Uncle Darin and Mam's house. Donkeys Shrek and Fiona are in the background.
Hugging her cousin Creek in the car.
Four cousins crammed in the back of the suburban. Avery (2), Creek (6), Chloe (3), Boone (4).

Wedding at the Ranch

This weekend one of our good friends that lives on the ranch got married. He and Casey have worked together since we moved to the panhandle. Jake and Lindsey (yes her name is Lindsey too) got married on the ranch and it turned out so perfect. The weather cooperated and the wind didn't blow us away. We wish them the best and a fun honeymoon in Mexico!
Me and Shawna (she looks amazing for just having a baby 3 weeks ago!)

Avery and Jake (the groom)

The groomsmen we all so tall - you can see that Casey was the 4th tallest which is unusual.

I didn't get pics of the reception which included a meal and dance. Avery ended up going home early with fever. I am hoping that it is just a little bug and won't last long. We have been napping and trying to get better today.
